Setting up the VPN Server to host online games:

Just so you all know, this is intended for people with WindowsXP machines.  It can be set up on other versions of windows with these settings, but you have to go about the setup process differently.

1) First of all, you must have the VPN capabilities already installed.  If not, you can goto the windows update site, or goto Control Panel > Add/Remove Windows Components, and it should be listed in there.

2) Now, goto Start > Settings > Network Connections > New Connection Wizard

3) Click next.

4) Choose Setup an Advanced Connection, then hit next

5) Choose Accept incoming connections, then hit next.

6) If you are using a cable modem or connect through the internet through a network, choose next.  If you use dial-up, choose your modem, then choose next.

7) Choose Allow Virtual Private Connections

8) Now choose the user accounts that you want to allow access.  Be careful.  Even though you will be limiting access, only give accounts to people you can trust for sure! Click finish.

9) Now when you goto your network connections list, (Start > Settings > Network Connections) you will see one called Incoming Connections.

10) Right click on it and choose properties

11) goto the Networking tab, and make sure IPX/SPX Compatible protocol is installed and checked off.  Be sure to uncheck the TCP/IP protocol box, otherwise, the two protocols will conflict when trying to accept connections.  Also make sure NetBIOS is enabled as well.

12) Now we're done, the rest of the settings are taken care of automatically, such as ip address assigning.  Now we're ready to have people connect.
