Setting up the sound card:

As many of you may have already guessed, sound is the major factor in crashes when attempting to play OMF on Win NT, Win2k, or WinXP, even Windows 98 machines as well.  If you disable it, it's almost certain that OMF 2097 will never crash.  However, we like the sound, so here goes:

1) Download VDMsound and the VDMsound Launchpad from here:

http://ntvdm.cjb.net/

2) Install VDMsound, then the Launchpad.

3) Download this VDMsound setup zip file and place it's contents in your OMF 2097 directory.

VDMsound setup config for OMF 2097

4) Now simply double click on the shortcut (it should have a blue and magenta colored icon).

5) Go down to setup in the red options screen (let's you choose help, play omf, network game, etc) and go to setup.

6) Select a SoundBlaster 16 for the sound card, accept the settings, then choose high quality (don't choose very high or ultra high, these don't work with VDMsound, yet)

7) Now start up a game, and everything should work fine.  Crashes *may* occur every so often, but I'm constantly updating the VDMsound setup files.
